Forex trading sessions
The foreign exchange market is open 24 hours a day, from Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00 New York time (21:00 UTC in summer, 22:00 UTC in winter). Session hours follow local time, so their UTC equivalents change with daylight saving.

The London / New York overlap is usually the highest-liquidity, highest-volatility window of the trading day. Killzones are calculated as the overlap of the two forex sessions, so they move with daylight saving.

Do Asian exchanges close for lunch?
Yes. The Tokyo Stock Exchange pauses from 11:30 to 12:30 JST, the Hong Kong Exchange from 12:00 to 13:00 HKT, and the Shanghai Stock Exchange from 11:30 to 13:00 CST. The map shows these exchanges as paused while the lunch break is in effect.

What is the day/night line on the map?
It is the solar terminator, the boundary between daylight and night on Earth, calculated in real time from the position of the sun and refreshed every minute.
Does the map account for public holidays?
Yes, for the covered exchanges. NYSE, LSE, Xetra, ASX and TSE holidays and half days are calculated by rule; HKEX, SSE, NSE and BIST use a manually maintained 2026 calendar.
